We have abandoned conventional vein stripping as it requires a general
anaesthetic and causes considerable post-operative pain and bruising
requiring time off work. In its place we provide a repertoire of
specialised minimally invasive local-anaesthetic techniques which can
treat any variety of
varicose veins on a walk-in-walk-out basis. All
treatments are performed under local anaesthetic with rapid return to
normal activities. Some patients need only one treatment, others need
a combination of procedures tailored to their particular pattern of
varicose veins. These techniques include:
VNUS ClosureFAST
This technique uses radiofrequency ablation energy to treat the main
faulty veins causing
varicose veins. It is virtually painless, and
patients report minimal post-procedure discomfort compared to laser
treatment or stripping.

Keyhole Treatment of Perforator Veins
Perforator veins are often neglected, yet frequently cause varicose
veins, especially when there has been previous surgery. Laser cannot
be used to treat perforator veins, and conventional surgery requires
incisions causing scarring. We use a keyhole technique using a
derivative of the VNUS Closure method which treats perforator veins
effectively under local anaesthetic leaving no scar.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy
Some
varicose veins are best removed through tiny (under 2 mm) incisions
made under local anaesthetic. These small cuts are closed with paper
stitches and are barely visible afterwards.
Vein Injections: Foam Sclerotherapy and Micro Sclerotherapy
The results of vein injections are much improved by using detailed
ultrasound to guide the procedures.
Varicose veins and thread (spider)
veins can be greatly improved by accurate injections using either a
form of foam or liquid sclerosant to make the veins disappear.
